News: Former EFCC chairman Ribadu joins PDP and is set to run for Adamawa governor

FORMER Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) chairman Mallam Nuhu Ribadu has left the All Progressives Congress (APC) and joined the People's Democratic Party (PDP) making him the frontrunner in the forthcoming Adamawa State governorship elections.
Between 2003 and 2007, Mallam Ribadu, 53, served as EFCC chairman, during which he enjoyed a lot of success combating corruption in Nigeria. In 2011, he ran for the presidency of Nigeria on the platform of the Action Congress of Nigeria, which later metamorphosised into the APC after merging with several other parties. Mallam Ribadu had been strongly tipped as an APC presidential candidate for 2015 but in a shock move, he appears to have dumped the party for the ruling PDP. In Mallam Ribadu's native Adamawa State, a governorship election is due soon following the impeachment of Governor Murtala Nyako and his deputy.With Mallam Ribadu now in the PDP, he has automatically become the favourite to clinch the party's gubernatorial ticket and run for governor. If he decides to run, he is expected to win overwhelmingly.
Over the weekend, Mallam Ribadu’s siblings registered for him at his Makama Ward in Yola South and sent the registration card to him in Abuja to enable him pick the PDP governorship form for the elections. He is expected to formally declare his candidacy tomorrow in Abuja. PDP national publicity secretary Ibrahim Jalo, said:“It is after the official defection that we can say whether he had moved or not and whether he will get waiver or not. Even at that, he has to ask for the waiver.” Over the weekend, prominent PDP members have been congratulating Mallam Ribadu and welcoming him to the party on different social media platforms. Apparently he has been under pressure from the presidency to join the PDP with the caveat that he will be given the Adamawa State governorship ticket. Other senior PDP figures from Adamawa State also said to be interested in the governorship race include former military administrator of Lagos State, General Buba Marwa; former senator representing Adamawa Central, Abubakar Girei; a former political adviser to the president, Ahmed Gulak, and a one- time minister, Idi Hong. Others include Dr Umar Ardo, the former executive secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission; Dr Ahmed Modibo; Markus Gundiri and the son of former PDP national chairman Awual Tukur.
Current speaker of the Adamawa State House of Assembly and acting governor Bala Ngilari, has also announced his intention to stand in the elections. Apparently, 13 of his colleagues from the state House of Assembly have endorsed his candidacy.

News: Nigerian Ebola patient discharged from hospital

The Minister of Health in Nigeria, Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu, says the first Nigerian Ebola patient declared fit and discharged from hospital.
Professor Chukwu told journalists in Lagos on Saturday that the patient, whose identity has not been revealed, was asked to go home after all the necessary medical examinations were carried out.
“The total number of Ebola cases now stands at 12, while the number of deaths remains four. The people under surveillance in Lagos is now 189, while six are in Enugu, in southeast Nigeria,” Professor Chukwu said. The minister also announced that the drug, Nano Silva, which was thought could be used to treat Ebola patients in Nigeria, was said not to have met the requirements of the National Health Research ethics code. His statement is coming two days after the death of a fourth Ebola patient was reported.
In an effort to contain the spread of the virus, the Lagos State government, the only state in Nigeria with reported cases of Ebola, had provided an isolation unit to accommodate persons who tested positive to the virus.
At a press conference in Abuja on
Thursday Professor Chukwu, said eight persons were still alive, more than half of them are doing very well and actually showing signs of recovery …
under treatment,” Prof Chukwu said.
The discharged patient is believed to be among those he earlier said were recovering.The World Health Organization has called this Ebola outbreak, whose worst affected countries include Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia, an international emergency. It has killed around 55 to 60 per cent of those who have contracted the disease. President Goodluck Jonathan last week declared the Ebola outbreak in Lagos State a national emergency and approved an intervention fund of 1.9 billion Naira to contain the disease.

News: TB Joshua: I can heal Ebola patients with anointing water

Famous Nigerian Pastor,Prophet TB Joshua, has volunteered to donate 2,000 bottles of healing anointing water – specially blessed at his Synagogue Church Of All Nations (SCOAN) in Nigeria – to heal Ebola patients in countries where the haemorrhagic fever is wreaking havoc on innocent citizens. He told his congregation in Nigeria, recently, that he is willing to personally take the bottles of anointing water to the governments of Nigeria, Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone - where the disease has killed at least 932 people - according to the World Health Organization,towards fighting it. Joshua said he reserved the special anointing water for the Ebola epidemic because he had a vision earlier in the year that the world would be ravaged by the festering fever. “At the beginning of this year, we said there will be a deadly disease…I mentioned it as one of the prophecies. …When this anointing water came, I told you I could not allow it anywhere because I was foreseeing what is coming…,” he said.There are international efforts to combat the
disease, which the WHO has described as the
"worst ever" outbreak of its kind.
